1961 and 1962
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

In 1961, the defending World Champion Eagles displayed the NFL’s most explosive offense, as young Sonny Jurgensen replaced the retired Norm Van Brocklin at QB and had a great year, tossing 32 TD passes and leading a superior air attack with receivers Tommy McDonald and Pete Retzlaff. With a 10-4 record, the club finished second in the East in ’61, but lost the Playoff Bowl in Miami to the Detroit Lions.

1962 was a rough year for the Eagles. The so-so Philadelphia defense had sufficed in ’61 when the offense was churning out points at a furious pace, but now key injuries hobbled the club throughout the year. Jurgensen, still bothered by the shoulder separation you’ll see him suffer in the 1961 Playoff Bowl, found himself throwing the ball to a group of strangers. Only McDonald stayed healthy, as receivers Retzlaff, Bobby Walston and Dick Lucas all broke arms! Hopalong Cassady broke a leg, Ted Dean suffered a broken foot, and the Eagles tumbled all the way into the cellar of the NFL East.

In these rare original films, narrated by Jim Leaming, Eagle fans can once again see all their 1961-1962 heroes in action: Jim Carr, Chuck Weber, King Hill, Stan Campbell, Maxie Baughan, Jess Richardson, Glen Amerson, Gene Gossage, John Wittenborn, Bobby Freeman, Theron Sapp, Jim Schrader, Ben Scotti, Pete Case, Howard Keys, Bobby Richards, Bob Harrison, Roy Hord, John Nocera and more!. Many stars are also featured in nice close up shots on the field before games, including head coach Nick Skorich, Jurgensen, Clarence Peaks, Ted Dean, Billy Barnes, McDonald, J.D. Smith, Tom Brookshier, Chuck Bednarik, Retzlaff, Don Burroughs, Riley Gunnels, young Irv Cross, Timmy Brown and Frank Budd.
