CHICAGO CUBS
vs
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

"SECOND OLDEST REGULAR SEASON COMPLETE GAME!!"

Thanks to the discovery and restoration expertise of Rare Sportsfilms, Inc., this rare broadcast treasure is available on home video to baseball fans everywhere! The original complete game broadcast of the NBC Saturday afternoon TV Baseball "Game-Of-The-Week", June 10, 1972 is now the second oldest complete game regular season broadcast which is known to exist! (Only the 1969 Cubs vs. Phils game of July 12, 1969 is older.) Obviously, this is the oldest Giants complete game broadcast which exists, and it’s a must for all San Francisco Giants fans!

On this new two-volume set, you’ll see Candlestick Park as it looked over a generation ago when Bobby Bonds and Willie McCovey were inspiring the tune "Bye, Bye, Baby!" NBC’s Jim Simpson and Tony Kubek call the play-by-play action of this matchup of Hall-Of-Famer Fergie Jenkins vs. Steve Stone.

During the broadcast two pre-game interviews are shown, with eternal optimist Ernie Banks talking about the Cubs in ’72 and Ron Santo talking about diabetes. Later, Chicago Tribune sportswriter Dick Dozier is Simpson’s guest in the booth and he talks about the Cubs talent and the club’s "under-achievement" so far this year. The Giants (Western Division champs in ’71), are in a slump, and have lost 27 of 33 games at home in ’72. All runs scored in the game except one are the result of homers. Steve Stone, one of the Giants best hurlers of the season, carries a 2-1, 5-hitter into the ninth inning, but ends up the hard-luck loser. His future Cubs broadcasting booth partner Ron Santo finally sends him to the showers with a solo homer in the ninth! Fergie Jenkins again goes all the way for Chicago, walking only one and notching his 11th straight complete game!

Complete game TV broadcasts from before the days of home VCR’s (1975) are very rare. Only five games exist prior to 1965 (all are World Series games), the two oldest being in the Museum of Broadcasting in New York. The other three were all discovered by Rare Sportsfilms and are in our private collection. NONE of these have ever been made available on video in their entirety.
