MILWAUKEE BRAVES
"Baseball's Main Street"
The nostalgic 1955 Milwaukee Braves highlight film, "Baseball's Main Street" is now available on video from "Rare Sportsfilms"! Carefully made from the original 16mm print for beautiful color and picture quality, the tape follows the Braves from the beginning of spring training thru closing day at County Stadium. At Braves Field in Bradenton, Del Crandall, Lou Burdette, Gene Conley, Eddie Mathews, Johnny Logan, Danny O'Connell, and Joe Adcock are spotlighted as they work themselves into shape for the coming season.
There's the excitement of Opening Day as Warren Spahn goes against Birdie Tebbetts' Cincinnati Redlegs and Gerry Staley. Mighty Ted Kluszewski's homer gives the Reds a 2-1 lead, but merely sets the stage for young rookie Chuck Tanner's date with destiny. As a pinch-hitter in the eighth, he bats for Spahn and on the first pitch ever thrown to him in the majors, smacks a game-tying homer, becoming the first player ever to accomplish this feat! Later in the inning Hank Aaron's double drives in the winning run and the Braves win the '55 opener at County Stadium.
The video is also full of unique behind-the-scenes looks at the club. You'll visit Waycross Camp, the Braves' minor league training complex at Waycross, Georgia, and see baseball great Travis Jackson working Braves of the future on making the double play, and Sibby Sisti supervising sliding drills. Watch as Ernie Johnson, manager Charlie Grimm, Hank Aaron and rookie Tanner arrive at County Stadium in their 50's vintage cars and sign autographs for fans. You'll get a peek inside the clubhouse at Logan, Crandall and Ray Crone, and see trainer Joe Taylor pack the famous tomahawk uniforms for a Braves Eastern trip to Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Included are game-action highlights from each series of games played in these old ballparks that have long since left the baseball scene. Some outstanding shots show the Braves banging the ball off the billboards and into the stands at both Connie Mack Stadium and Ebbets Field - all in beautiful COLOR!! (This is the oldest color and sound film of these two ballparks known to exist!) Watch George Crowe, Logan and Mathews all tee off against Robin Roberts, as Bob Buhl gets the win at Philly. Then in Brooklyn Adcock and Crandall homer to give the Braves a 9-6 win, despite a great catch by Duke Snider. Next day, O'Connell and Billy Bruton both homer off big Don Newcombe to help the Braves put six runs on the old Schaefer Beer scoreboard in the first three innings. Also shown on this tape are other great stars of the national League, such as Stan Musial, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks and Richie Ashburn.
You can receive your own copy of this rare film for only $29.95 + $5.00 for sales tax and shipping. You'll get your tape within a week!
