1966
WORLD SERIES
For
the first time ever, the highlights of every game of the 1966
World Series are now available in beautiful, natural COLOR on
a new DVD from Rare Sportsfilms! Narrated by
famed Oriole broadcaster Chuck Thompson, this fabulous new DVD
brings back all the nostalgia of this memorable World Series,
which shocked baseball and marked the end of the career of the
fabulous Sandy Koufax!
Actual
full-COLOR game-action highlights of all the big plays of every
game of the series are included! You may have seen some footage
of this series on VHS or TV highlight shows in the past, but
with poor, reddish color! Now, with the help of the most modern
electronic equipment, you can see it again in natural color!
Every scene in the film (numbering in the hundreds) has been
individually restored digitally to bring back the color and
picture sharpness of the original color print! You’ll
see great shots of both ballparks - Baltimore’s Memorial
Stadium and especially new Dodger Stadium, colorfully decked
out in World Series bunting. Included are great shots of the
players including Maury Wills, Luis Aparicio, A.L. MVP Frank
Robinson, Brooks Robinson, young Oriole pitchers Dave McNally,
Jim Palmer and Wally Bunker and the Dodgers’ great pitching
staff of Koufax, Don Drysdale, and Claude Osteen.
Here
is what you’ll see on this new DVD:
Game 1 at
Dodger Stadium: Dave McNally vs Don Drysdale –
Back to back first inning home runs by “the Robinson Boys”
Frank and Brooks, shake up Drysdale and get the Orioles off
to a 3-0 lead. With the score 4-1 Baltimore in the third, McNally
walks the bases loaded and is replaced by N.L. castoff Moe Drabowsky.
Drabowski gets out of the inning with only 1 run scoring and
is brilliant the rest of the way, giving up no more runs and
striking out 11 in relief, as Baltimore wins the series opener,
5-2! Jim Lefebvre’s homer in the second inning is the
only Dodger home run of the series!
Game 2 at
Dodger Stadium: Jim Palmer vs Sandy Koufax –
20-year old Palmer tosses 4-hit 6-0 shutout vs Koufax as the
Orioles take a 2-0 lead in the series! Sandy is victim of six
Dodger errors, including three by centerfielder Willie Davis
in one inning! Aparicio, Boog Powell and Davy Johnson all have
two hits each in the 6-0 Baltimore win vs Koufax!
Game 3 at
Memorial Stadium: Wally Bunker vs Claude Osteen –
Osteen pitches great game, scattering 3 hits, but the big one
is a 5th inning home run by Paul Blair that travels 430 feet
and gives Baltimore a 1-0 victory and a strangle-hold on the
series. Young Bunker pitches 6-hit complete game shutout!
Game 4 at
Memorial Stadium: Dave McNally vs Don Drysdale –
This time, McNally has excellent control and matches Drysdale
in giving up only 4 hits. It’s another 1-0 shutout for
Baltimore and Frank Robinson is the hero of the day as he smashes
his second homer of the series off Drysdale in the 4th inning,
giving the Orioles all the runs needed to sweep the Dodgers
in one of the most amazing World Series of all time! Oriole
pitching sets records for lowest batting average (.142), fewest
hits (17) and only 2 runs given up the entire series!
