NEW YORK JETS

”THE JETS IN ACTION"

The New York Jets lost only six games in 1966, the fewest losses in their 7-year history, but the season was still a disappointment after the club reeled off four victories and a tie in their first five games. Nevertheless, fourth-year Jets head coach Weeb Eubank, with 1965’s AFL’s Rookie-Of-The-Year Joe Namath at quarterback, was assembling and molding a good young team that was beginning to come into it’s own as a contender. “Broadway Joe”, Matt Snell, George Sauer, Winston Hill, Dave Herman, John Schmitt and rookies Pete Lammons and Emerson Boozer were all 25 years old or less, and veterans Billy Mathis, Sherman Plunkett, Don Maynard and Sam DeLuca added stability to the youngsters on offense. Only Larry Grantham of the veterans on defense had a good year, but youngsters Verlon Biggs, Gerry Philbin and Al Atkinson played well.

In this rare 28-minute COLOR team highlight film you’ll see great AFL action from all seven games at Shea Stadium, plus highlights vs. the Broncos at Mile High Stadium and film from the 24-24 tie vs. Patriots at Fenway Park. Even though the Jets went 2-6-1 after their fast 4-0-1 start, the film ends with emphasis on the Jets great effort in the last game of the season, which knocked the Patriots out of the AFL Championship Game. Narrated by Merle Harmon, this video brings back memories of the beginnings of the formation of the Jets World Championship team, which would mature only two years later! Besides those Jets players already mentioned above, you’ll see many other Jets of the day: Johnny Sample, Bake Turner, Paul Rochester, Jim Harris, Dainard Paulson, Bill Baird, Paul Crane, Mark Smolinski, Jim Hudson and kickers Curley Johnson and Jim Turner. One part of the film even recognizes the great play of Jet opponents, such as George Blanda, Babe Parilli, Tom Mix, John Hadl, Lance Alworth, Keith Lincoln, Jim Nance, Clem Daniels, Len Dawson, Otis Taylor, Mike Garrett, Jack Kemp and Tom Flores.
