1951
WORLD SERIES

The memorable highlights of every game of the 1951 World Series are now available on video from Rare Sportsfilms! In addition, you'll see rare footage from the final games of the season for the Giants and Dodgers, who both won and remained tied for the pennant, forcing the now-famous three game N.L. pennant playoff. Game-action from the historic third game is also shown, along with the "shot heard 'round the world" which lifted the Giants into the World Series vs. the New York Yankees.

But that's not all! At the end of the World Series, there are four special 1953 interviews with men who played in the 1951 series! Alvin Dark, Sal Maglie, Gil McDougald and Hank Bauer all talk baseball and look back at the '51 World Series two years afterward. In all, there's over an hour of action-packed baseball, much of which has never been available on video before! Here's what you'll see:

September 30, 1951 - Final day of the N.L. season, Giants defeat Braves at old Braves Field to clinch at least a tie! Meanwhile at Shibe Park, Philadelphia, the Dodgers have rallied to tie their game in the ninth 8-8 vs. Phils after being far behind! Jackie Robinson's 14th inning home run wins the game and ties the Giants for the pennant!

October 3, 1951 - Third game of the playoff, Dodgers vs. Giants at the Polo Grounds - Bums score three runs in the 8th to take commanding 3-1 lead over Maglie and Giants. But in the last of the ninth, Lockman's double scores Dark and sends Mueller to third. The Polo Grounds is in an uproar as Dodger manager Chuck Dressen removes Don Newcombe and brings in Ralph Branca to pitch to Bobby Thomson. Thomson's famous homer brings victory to the Giants and provides one of the most unforgettable moments in sports history! So it's the Giants vs. Yankees in the 1951 World Series!

Game 1 at Yankee Stadium - Giants surprise starter Dave Koslo beats Yanks 5-1. Monte Irvin is star with 4 hits and a steal of home! Dark's sixth inning 3-run homer clinches game for Giants.

Game 2 at Yankee Stadium - Ed Lopat's five-hitter stops Giants 3-1. Irvin gets three of those hits to run his total to seven already in the series!

Game 3 at the Polo Grounds - Jim Hearn pitches 5-hitter, beating Yanks 6-2. Eddie Stanky ignites Giants fifth inning 5-run outburst when he kicks the ball out of Rizzuto's hand while sliding into second base.

Game 4 at the Polo Grounds - Allie Reynolds beats Sal Maglie 6-2 to again tie up the series. This game is the turning point of the series, with a one day rain delay helping a weary Yank pitching staff regroup, and taking away the pennant momentum from the Giants. Joe DiMaggio's final career home run.

Game 5 at the Polo Grounds - Yanks crush Giants on rookie Gil McDougald's third inning grand slam homer. Lopat beats Larry Jansen 13-1 to give Yanks 3-2 series edge.

Game 6 at Yankee Stadium - Hank Bauer's 6th inning bases loaded triple is the big hit of this game, although the Giants fight back in the ninth, scoring two to get within a run. But Bauer's sliding catch for the final out saves game and wraps up the series for the Yanks. Joe DiMaggio's last game.
