1946-1955
“TEN YEARS WITH THE CLEVELAND BROWNS”
(The “Otto Graham Decade”)
This film covers ten memorable years in the history of one of the greatest franchises in the NFL. The highlights of the first years of the team in the old All-America Football Conference as well as the NFL (starting in 1950) are shown, including closeups of the players in practice, their families, a “halftime locker room” scene with coach Paul Brown and assistant coaches, and even a look at the Browns all-girl marching band, the “Musical Majorettes”! Most of the film is game-action however, showing highlights from memorable games, including playoff and title games from each year.
The film begins showing Browns alumni meeting again at Hiram College training camp in the mid-1950’s and watching as coach Paul Brown drills the “new” Browns in practice. Shown in order are players and former Browns Marion Motley, Otto Graham, Edgar Jones, Chet Adams, Lin Houston, Grank Gatski, Lou Groza, Gaylon Smith, Dante Lavelli, Bill Willis, Bob Gaudio, coach Fritz Heisler and Ed Ulinski. In this segment, each player is shown in a “flashback” with camera shots of him in action for the Browns.
Then, highlights from each year, 1946-1955 are shown, beginning with the very first game in All-America Conference history at Cleveland in 1946, the Browns vs. the Miami Seahawks. Each season is shown in order, including highlights of many of the Browns title games, including the 1955 NFL Championship Game at The Coliseum vs. the Rams.
Many, many Browns players from 1946-1955 are mentioned and shown in action on this film, as well as great games from this period of Cleveland Browns history, a span of ten years in which the Browns won ten straight divisional championships, seven league titles and compiled a record of 114-20-4, including a 29-game winning streak over parts of three seasons!
