1958 and 1959
GREEN BAY PACKERS
In 1958, future Packer stars Jim Taylor, Ray Nitchke and Jerry Kramer were rookies. Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Bill Forester, Jim Ringo, Forrest Gregg and Jess Whittenton had each been on the club for a year or more, however head coach Ray McLean’s Packers suffered through a horrible season in ‘58, finishing 1-10-1. Enter new head coach Vince Lombardi for 1959. The Pack promptly won their first three games under Lombardi, then lost their next five in a row. Lombardi replaced starting QB Lamar McHan with young Bart Starr and the Packers then won their last four games of the season. This DVD covers the 1958-1959 transition years of the Packers, a team of men evolving from losers to winners under their remarkable coach, who would turn the club into dynasty in the decade ahead.
In these rare original films narrated by Jim Leaming and Chris Schenkel, Packer fans can once again see all their 1958-1959 heroes in action: Babe Parilli, Billy Howton, Howie Ferguson, Al Carmichael, Joe Johnson, Jim Shanley, Jim Salisbury, Joe Francis, Lamar McHan, Bill Butler, Bobby Dillon, John Symank, Steve Meilinger, Don McIlhenny, Hank Greminger, Gary Knafelc, Lew Carpenter, Dan Currie, Dave Hanner, Max McGee, Starr, Hornung, Taylor, Ron Kramer, Boyd Dowler and more!
