SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
"GO GIANTS"

The San Francisco Giants promotional film of 1973 (made for '74) is now available on video for the first time ever from Rare Sportsfilms! Narrated by the new "Voice of the Giants" Al Michaels, the 28-minute film is set to a classical music background and makes ample use of slow motion and actual live radio sound bites, courtesy of KSFO radio, with Lon Simmons and Bill Thompson doing the play-by-play. See Candlestick Park as it looked a generation ago, plus action from road games at Dodger Stadium and Atlanta Stadium.

With Willie McCovey gone to the Padres, the emphasis is on speed and youth and this film is packed with shots of the Giants in action during the 1973 season! All the top Giants players are shown individually, and you'll hear many of their actual voices as they talk about themselves, their play and the ballclub (Garry Maddox, Gary Matthews, Bobby Bonds, Ron Bryant, pitching coach Don McMahon, Chris Speier and Tito Fuentes. Michaels describes the young Giants outfield as "the fastest in baseball history", and Maddox, Matthews and Bonds are all shown in action. Starting catcher is Dave Rader, but you'll also see backup Mike Sadek in action, too. Ron Bryant with 24 victories is the top winner in the N.L. in '73. Pitching coach Don McMahon talks about Ron and other members of the Giants staff as each hurler is shown in action: Tom Bradley, Jim Barr, John D'Acquisto and relievers Randy Moffitt and Elias Sosa. The Giants outstanding double play combo of All-Star Chris Speier and hustling Tito Fuentes is featured. Tito's 11th inning home run to beat Jim Brewer and the Dodgers at Candlestick is shown with live play-by-play description. At the infield corners are Ed Goodson, who hit .302 in '73 and towering Dave Kingman, who played third and also filled in at first when Goodson was injured. Top outfield reserve is Gary Thomasson, but you'll also see and hear young Jim Howarth talk about the team's chances for '74.

The Giants are shown in action against the Cardinals, Braves, Reds, Padres, Expos and Dodgers in this tape. You'll see the stars on other teams performing also, such as Nate Colbert, Ted Simmons and Joe Torre, Tony Perez, Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan, Jeff Burroughs, Darrell Evans and Hank Aaron, Steve Garvey, Joe Ferguson, Manny Mota, Bill Buckner, Jim Brewer and many others.

The top highlight on the video however, is Bobby Bonds' at bat against the Dodgers in the last of the ninth with the Giants trailing 8-7. Live play-by-play describes Bond's grand slam homer to win the game 11-8!

You can get your own color copy of the 1973 Giants promotional film, now available on video for the first time ever, by sending $29.95 plus $5.00 shipping and handling. (Illinois residents add $2.00 sales tax.) You'll get your tape within a week!
