1963
WORLD SERIES
For
the first time ever, the highlights of every game of the 1963
World Series are now available in beautiful, natural COLOR on
a new DVD from Rare Sportsfilms! Narrated by
famed Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully, this fabulous new DVD brings
back all the nostalgia of this memorable World Series, which shocked
baseball and cemented the name of Sandy Koufax into World Series
lore forever!
Actual
full-COLOR game-action highlights of all the big plays of every
game of the series are included! You may have seen some footage
of this series on VHS or TV highlight shows in the past, but with
poor, reddish color! Now, with the help of the most modern electronic
equipment, you can see it again in natural color! Every scene
in the film (numbering in the hundreds) has been individually
restored digitally to bring back the color and picture sharpness
of the original color print! You’ll see great shots of both
ballparks (OLD Yankee Stadium – before remodeling –
and especially new Dodger Stadium) colorfully decked out in World
Series bunting and great shots of the players including Frank
Howard, Jim Gilliam, Johnny Roseboro, Maury Wills, Bill Skowron,
the Davis boys and the Dodgers’ great pitching staff of
Koufax, Don Drysdale, Johnny Podres and Ron Perranoski. New York
Yankees featured include Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Yogi Berra,
Tom Tresh, A.L. MVP Elston Howard, Joe Pepitone, Clete Boyer,
Whitey Ford and rookies Jim Bouton and Al Downing!
Here
is what you’ll see on this new DVD:
Game
1 at Yankee Stadium: Sandy Koufax vs Whitey Ford –
The most memorable game of the series is the opener, as Sandy
Koufax makes series history by fanning 15 Yanks to set a new all
time record! Tom Tresh’s HR in the 8th accounts for both
the Yanks runs, but Sandy is in command all the way as the Dodgers
win, 5-2. Ex-Yank Bill Skowron’s RBI single and Johnny Roseboro’s
3-run HR in the second inning are the big hits of the game.
Game
2 at Yankee Stadium: Johnny Podres vs Al Downing –
Another strong Dodger pitching performance, this time by southpaw
Johnny Podres, who holds the Yanks to a run on six hits thru 8
innings, continues the pace of the series for L.A. Two quick runs
in the first inning off Downing put the pressure on the Yanks
immediately. Perranoski in relief. HR, Bill Skowron.
Game
3 at Dodger Stadium: Don Drysdale vs Jim Bouton –
Once again the Dodgers jump on top in the very first inning on
a walk, a wild pitch and a single by Tommy Davis. Drysdale is
dominating, walking 1, striking out 9 and allowing only 3 hits!
Pepitone’s thrilling HR bid in the 9th is caught against
the RF wall by Ron Fairly!
Game
4 at Dodger Stadium: Sandy Koufax vs Whitey Ford –
Whitey Ford actually out pitches Koufax in this game, allowing
only 2 hits (both by Frank Howard) in 7 innings before being pinch-hit
for in the 8th. However, Howard’s first hit in the 5th is
a tremendous blast into the second deck in left field –
the first time a fair ball had ever been hit into the second deck
at Dodger Stadium! In the 7th, Mickey Mantle rips into a Koufax
fast ball and smashes a long homer into the centerfield stands
to tie the score. It’s Mickey’s 15th in series play,
tying him with Babe Ruth for series homers! Joe Pepitone’s
error in the bottom of the inning allows Gilliam to go to third
base, from where he scores the winning run on Willie Davis’
sac fly, completing the first sweep of the Yankees in World Series
history!
