PITTSBURGH PIRATES
"We Had 'Em All The Way"
For Pittsburgh Pirate fans, memories of the 1960 World Championship season come alive on this new high-quality video from "Rare Sportsfilms"! Filmed in 1960 by William G. Beal Inc. of Pittsburgh, and narrated by long-time voice of the Pirates Bob Prince, "We Had 'Em All The Way" shows the action, excitement and players, plus the pennant and World Series celebrations that took place in the steel capital of the world in 1960! Remember Vern Law, El Roy Face, Vinegar Bend Mizell, Dick Groat, Don Hoak, Dick Stuart, Geno Cimoli, Virgil Trucks, Smoky Burgess, Bill Virdon, Bob Skinner, Rocky Nelson, Fred Green, Harvey Haddix, Clem Labine, Bob Friend, Dick Schofield, Roberto Clemente, Hal Smith, and Bill Mazeroski? They're all shown on this tape along with manager Danny Murtaugh, G.M. Joe L. Brown and coaches Sam Narron, Mickey Vernon, and Frank Oceak.
You'll also see great action shots taken from almost every possible angle in old Forbes Field, including great views of the left field scoreboard, outfield brick wall, the left field bleachers and views from the top of the roof as well as scenes of the exterior of the park. There is action from both day and night games, and from other ballparks around the National League as motion picture cameras follow the Pirates on the road to Wrigley Field, County Stadium, the Coliseum, old Crosley Field and brand new Candlestick Park (these were the days when you could see Knob Hill and Hunter's Point from behind home plate!)
During the film, home runs are hit by Dick Stuart, Bill Virdon, Bob Skinner and Don Hoak at Pittsburgh, while at Milwaukee on pennant clinching day, Clemente and Mazeroski connect at County Stadium. Covered is the celebration in the visiting clubhouse at Milwaukee with Bob Prince shown interviewing Clemente, Groat, Labine and Skinner, as well as the parade in downtown Pittsburgh welcoming the club back home after the clinching of the pennant.
You'll see preparation made for the upcoming World Series and scenes from 'media day' held five days prior to the series opener at Forbes Field. Shown is the taking of the official championship team picture! Also covered is the pre-World Series rally at Oakland Civic Center.
Of course, no highlight film of the 1960 Pirates would be complete without shots of Mazeroski's famous winning homer. There are also scenes inside the Pirate clubhouse after the World Series and of fans celebrating inside the park (home plate is dug up after the game) as well as outside! This video brings back memories of the most exciting season in the history of the Pittsburgh Pirates, all in beautiful COLOR!
