1953
PITTSBURGH STEELERS

For the third consecutive year, the Steelers improved their record and under second year head coach Joe Bach, reached the .500 mark with a 6-6 slate in 1953 (see below). Gone was former coach Jock Sutherland’s single wing offense, and by 1953 Bach had quarterbacks Jim Finks, Ted Marchibroda and Bill Mackrides filling the air with footballs from the T-formation.

This rare film (it’s the only copy known to exist) covers highlights of all twelve games of the ’53 season. Narrated by Jim Leaming, the 49-minute B & W film has been completely restored to brand-new condition, and brings back great memories and the feel of Steeler football at old Forbes Field in Pittsburgh! You’ll also see action from road games at ballparks that have long since left the sports scene: Connie Mack Stadium, Griffith Stadium, the Polo Grounds and old Comiskey Park. Included are highlights of all three Saturday night games (remember the old white footballs?) and even shots of the Steeler Pep Band located in deep right center field!

In addition to Finks, Marchibroda and Mackrides you’ll see Lynn Chandnois, Elbie Nickel, George Sulima, Ed Barker, Jack Butler, Fran Rogel, Ray Mathews, Jim Brandt, Pat Brady, Dale Dodrill, Nick Bolkovac, Art DeCarlo, Lou Ferry, George Hughes, Lou Tepe and many others! All are shown both at home and on the road battling the NFL greats on other teams, such as Bobby Layne, Doak Walker, Charlie Conerly, Kyle Rote, Frank Gifford, Charlie Trippi, Pete Pihos, Chuck Bednarik, Babe Parilli, Billy Howton, Otto Graham, Dante Lavelli, Lou Groza, Eddie LaBaron and “Choo-Choo” Charlie Justice!

The season schedule and scores of all games are shown below:
